Exotiques

“Through the body, each movement reveals a different truth—one of survival, of defiance, of transformation. This work is a tapestry of lived realities, held together by breath, rhythm, and the shared desire to reclaim space. It is an invitation to witness, to feel the beauty and brutality of what it means to exist within, and beyond, the frame. It conjures strength from what was buried. And somewhere in the in-between—in the silences, the slips, the almosts—something else begins. A new language. A different truth. One that doesn’t explain itself, but demands to be felt.„Exotiques“ is not only a performance. It is an odyssey, a procession, a voyage, an emergence.”

Red Rivers

“Choreographer Willie Stark presents the new dance production “Red Rivers” for the first time at the LWL Museum of Art and Culture in Münster. The performance is taking place as part of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) theme year on post-colonial Westphalia-Lippe. In the work, Willie Stark explores the themes of identity, post-colonial narratives and social power structures. In “Red Rivers”, modern dance is combined with symbolism and emotional intensity. In the performance, the performers embodies the physical and emotional aspects of conflict, identity and resistance.

“Red Rivers” is a performance by choreographers and dancers Willie Stark and Yasmine Calasse of the ‘Stark Dance Company’. The work combines dance, performance, art and socio-political themes. It is characterised by an intensive examination of questions of culture, power and belonging and often deal with historical and contemporary forms of injustice.”

Chapt(her)s:

“Chapt(her)s explores the concept of the female body and the place of women in society. The female ensemble led by Willie Stark confronts the viewers with clichés, prejudices, and contradictions by delving deeply into gestures associated with women, the objectification of the body, double standards, political oppression, and social exclusion. Here, dance serves as a political tool: to what extent do culture, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic conditions influence the expression or suppression of anger, empathy, and love?”

Wombs of Revolution:

“Powerful and clever, Wombs of Revolution is a statement against social constraints and oppression and a call for resistance and solidarity. The performance raises awareness of gender-based violence and serves as a powerful statement of resistance and solidarity for survivors and women worldwide. Dance here is understood as a political and empowering tool.”
